• Pickling paste is a chemical solution used in the welding industry to clean the surface of metals, especially after processes like TIG welding or MIG welding, which can leave behind impurities, oxides, and discoloration. The paste contains acids like hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid that help dissolve oxides, rust, and other contaminants, restoring the clean surface of the metal.
• Its particularly useful for cleaning stainless steel welds. Welding stainless steel can lead to a dark discoloration, often called “heat tint” or “weld scale,” which is an oxide layer that forms due to the heat of welding. Pickling paste helps remove this oxide layer and restore the stainless steel’s appearance and resistance to corrosion.
